Charles Tandy nam het failliete Radio Shack in 1962 over. Het stopte met de catalogusverkoop, verkleinde de voorraad en begon met het openen van kleine winkels. Het begon met het uitgeven van doe-het-zelf elektronicaboeken.
Het moederbedrijf van Radio Shack, de Tandy Corporation, nam Allied Electronics en Allied Radio in 1970 over. Aan de consumentenkant werd het nieuwe bedrijf bekend als Allied Radio Shack.
Allied publiceerde ook technische boeken.
